Maritzburg(AUS) Weanling Half-Sister Amongst Sales-Topping Weanlings - Magic Millions

Roski-owned Maritzburg(AUS) had her half-sister sell a the recent Magic Millions Foal Sale for a whopping $235 000, the third highest of the sale and the sales-topper of Day 2.

The beautifully-bred and aptly named Maritzburg(AUS), by Elusive Quality out of Sleepy Hollow(AUS) by Carnegie(IRE) recently retired back to Roski Stud, where she will possibly be covered by Oratorio.

The chestnut filly is a two-time winner and placed four times - she was retired prematurely after a freak accident in training, which saw her not recover to her previous consistent form.

Thoroughbredexpress.com.au reports that the progeny of exciting first season sire Foxwedge were popular again, and he provided the day's third top-priced seller when Rothwell Park’s filly from Sleepy Hollow sold to New Zealand’s Michael Wallace and Prima Park Bloodstock.

A total of 34 lots sold at six figure prices over the two days of the foal sale and that helped boost the aggregate to over $15.24 million – up 78% on last year’s figures.

The average price of $43,559 also climbed over 20% and the 87% clearance rate was on a par with 2013. "It’s been a staggering two days," Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox reported. "There’s a robust appetite for weanlings and the Australian bloodstock industry is extremely healthy."
