Weekend Double For Roski

Grey filly Mogokity collected her third win on Friday evening at Greyville, whilst Kalidar had his second win at Flamingo Park on Monday.

It is Mogokity's second win for the Lezanne Forbes stable since she changed hands at the Shongweni February Horses In Training Sale. The four year old filly by Mogok out of Model T by Model Man is owned by Messrs D B Samuelson and B Samuelson, and has placed twice since - her ninth in total.

Sold as a weanling for R70 000, she was sold as yearling for R55 000 at the Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale and sold again earlier this year for R70 000. Mogokity has more than paid her way with earnings of R223 300 in total.

On Friday night she won convincingly by almost two lengths over 1400m, defeating Gr3 Strelitzia winner Royalsecuritybaby into second position, followed by Silvano filly Tiptol in third.

Her dam Double T was unplaced in one start at three, by Model Man out of a Lords mare Lady Greystroke, she produced three foals but only one runner and now winner - Mogokity.

A quality mare, Double T was on the small side and produced small foals, two of which are unraced. This consequence saw her being given away where she now enjoys life as a riding hack.

Model T is a half-sister to UAE winner T-Bird and a full-sister to Gr2 placed T-Model. This is the immediate female line of Classical Charm, Pitchroy, Treble Cord, Drug Squad and Rhythmical.

Beautfilly-bred five year old Kahal gelding Kalidar [pictured right], had his second win on Monday at Flamingo Park over 1400m by two lengths. Out of Alydar mare Lydara, Kalidar has also placed seven times to date. Kalidar is owned by Clive Murphy and trained by S Von Willingh Smit.

Lydara sold for over $1,million as a yearling. She is a half-sister to a truly phenomenal group of siblings; including Gold Beauty, the dam of Dayjur - in turn the sire of Modern Day who raced and stood at stud successfully in South Africa and KZN.

Her siblings include two sires, The Prime Minister and Majestic Venture, as well as Felix The Cat. Her dam Stick To Beauty by Illustrious, in total produced 17 foals, 17 runners and 11 winners - six of them Bold Black Type.

Lydara won twice at age three, and went to visit exclusive sires the world over, standing in America and England. She visited sires such as Danzig and Sadlers Wells, Spinning World, Grand Lodge and Theatrical.

Her first two Danzig foals ran in England, producing six wins between them with colt Sporting Lad running in America and England, notching up four wins and places in a Gr3 and the Listed Dubai Duty Free Cup. Sporting Ladder, the filly, won twice and went to stud, producing three winners.

Lydara's Sadlers Wells colt was sent to Russia, where he won four times and placed nine.

Eventually purchased and imported by Anton Proctor, Lydara was sent to the best son of Sadlers Wells to stand in South Africa - Fort Wood. The mating produced three-time winner King's Bench who competed in South Africa and Mauritius.

Well done to the winners!
