Just As Well Sires Ready To Run Cup Winner, Miss Minver Third Win
A big weekend for Roski Stud, as Miss Minver collects her third win (second in a row) and our stallion Just As Well sired the Ready To Run Cup winner, Chilli Con Carne.
The Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup presented by CTS threw a surprise when Michael Leaf’s Just As Well three year old gelding, swooped to victory ahead of Africa Rising in the R2,5million race.
Chilli Con Carne jumped from draw one under Gavin Lerena to win by over a length from Sean Tarry’s KZN-bred son of Visionaire, Africa Rising. The good looking Chilli Con Carne, trained by Lucky Houdalakis, is out of Windrush mare Wonder Glow, an unraced dam of three foals from the damline of sire Ribofolio, Champion Filly Up The Creek and Valley Dancer.
From limited books of mares, Just As Well has impressed with his progeny winning and placing consistently from small numbers. Just As Well, first past the winners post in a Canadian Gr1 and a consistent globe-trotting money earner, finished on a winners to runners percentage of 40.7% last season from 27 runners.

Just As Well, by AP Indy out of a Gr1 winning mare by Nureyev, stands at Spring Valley Stud and is owned in partnership with majority shareholder Roski Stud. Affectionately known as Jaws from the letters of his name, Just As Well descends from the female line of sires E Dubai and Raven’s Pass.
His half-sister Rainbow View is a Gr1 winner, whilst his half-brother Utley is a Gr2 winner.
Just As Well raced over four seasons and travelled extensively to race in the USA, Japan and Canada. He had four wins and 11 places, amassing $859,582 in stakes won.
His winning races included the Gr1 Northern Dancer Breeders Cup over 2400m, however he was put back into second place after a court ruled six months later for interference.
Just As Well also took home the Gr3 Arlington Handicap over 2000m as well placing second in this race previously.
His places include the Gr2 Dixie Stakes over 1800m and the Gr1 Arlington Million, the Gr1 Gulfstream Park Breeders Cup Handicap over 1800m.
Just As Well has been Equinome Speed Gene tested, returning as a C:T; meaning his progeny should specialise as Sprinter-milers.
Miss Minver had her second win on the trot for the Dean Kannemeyer stable on Friday evening - the three year old Dynasty filly's third career win to date. Out of British import Polzeath by Singspiel, in turn out of a Gone West mare - she sold for R500 000 at the 2015 National Yearling Sale and owned in partnership by Messrs D G Abery & G Ragunan & Mrs N P Malherbe.
Her record stands at three wins from just six starts, with two places. This the damline of sire Tinner's Way (by Secretariat), a multiple Gr1 winner as well as UK Champion 2YO Filly, Devon Ditty. Her dam is a half-sister to British Gr2 placed Salcombe.
Well done to all concerned!
